Eating out at Bangkok

Posted by admin on Oct-17-2008

Eating out at Bangkok is same as at Kuala Lumpur. If you were compare with the food portion, and then KL will be cheaper. I had Wan Tan Noodle at Bangkok; the portion is around 30% smaller than at KL.

However, beer is so cheap at Bangkok if compared to Malaysia. I drink every night before sleep in the hotel. Besides, we also had four big bottles of beer while we had our dinner at road side stalls.

Indeed, we didn’t bother much about foods at Bangkok. Our first mission in Bangkok was shopping! So, most of the time we just went to road side stalls to fill our hunger. There was one time we had KFC at the shopping mall. Their menu is different with what we have in Malaysia. They are offering roasted chicken wings in the menu. However, we didn’t have time visit to McDonald for pork burger.

Anyway, this is not the last time that we visit to Bangkok. I foreseen will go there again some day. Perhaps next time we should put more emphasis on foods at Bangkok! What do you like at Bangkok?

Kan Lee? Without You?

Posted by admin on Oct-15-2008

Let’s take a break from Bangkok stories. I don’t know whether you have watched this video before, but it is really funny.

It wasn’t a new clip; I’ve seen it quite some times ago. I think they invited Mariah Carey to this competition at the end and witness her Without You become Ken Lee… Just click on the video and have fun~!

Bangkok: Heaven of Shopping

Posted by admin on Oct-13-2008

We spent two full days for shopping in Bangkok. I agreed that Bangkok is the heaven of shopping.

We didn’t go to high class shopping mall such as Siam Square. We even spent two to three hours in MBK shopping mall. The one we spent the most time is at Platinum Shopping Mall.

The location of Platinum Shopping Mall is within the walking distance from Bangkok City Inn (the place where we stayed). This shopping mall is giving warehouse price if you purchase around three pieces of their goods. Although the discounted price is slightly higher than ChaTuChak (about 10-20 baht), but it has great shopping environment because it is covered by air-conditional! Most of the fashion, bags, jewelry selling there are Thailand made, the design is quite good.

At night, we continue our shopping at Silom night market. I saw a lot of natural hand-made soup at there. It is selling at 100 baht for three pieces. I regretted that I didn’t buy it. At here, bargain is a MUST. This is especially you want to buy bag. I bought a backpack for Cubby-Boy. The retail price is 1850 baht and I manage to get it with 600 baht after ‘negotiation’! So, you have to learn bargain before you go there, haha! Determination is the crucial part!

Okay, I have been talked a lot about shopping experience at Bangkok. Indeed, this is the activity that we spent most our time. How was your shopping experience in Bangkok?

Bangkok: ChaTuChak Weekend Market

Posted by admin on Oct-11-2008

If you are planning to go to Bangkok, don’t forget to go during the weekend. This is because you must go to ChaTuChak weekend market when you are at Bangkok.

We went there at the second day of our trip. We went by Taxi. The taxi driver charged us 150 baht from Pratunam to ChaTuChak. I know it is overprice, but what to do right?

In ChaTuChak weekend market, you can find anything that you want. As I know, it is about 35 acres and contains about 15,000 market and stores! They divided the market into few sections. Each section is selling for different goods. You can find everything you want at here.

My advice is, when you see something you like, then go and bargain then buy it! Do not think that you can find the way back to this store again. If you are not a regular there, it is truly hard to return to the same store.

The drawback of this market is too warm. I was sweating there and bought a lot of mineral water from there (10 baht for small bottle). The market closed at 6PM. If you have nothing to hurry, please still until 6PM. You will find something quite special there.

Bangkok: Transportation

Posted by admin on Oct-9-2008

It was almost two weeks I came back from Bangkok trip, but I haven’t started to write any about it yet. So, I will start with my personal experience towards Bangkok.

At first, I am very satisfied with their transportation system. You can see a lot of “Tuk Tuk” and Taxi on the road. I can say about 35% vehicle on the road are Taxi.

Since we have total number of four people, most of the time we just take taxi to anywhere. For your information, their taxi is Toyota Althis. It is not like our low-class Proton Saga. We took Tuk Tuk once for a spin, it only cost us 20 baht. It is under “promotion”.  But, I don’t like to take Tuk Tuk as the air condition at Bangkok is not that good.

The taxi drivers there are nice, but most of them refuse to on the taxi meter. This is because they could earn more if they negotiate the price before you are in. Sometime, they charge 100 baht for a short distance ride.

As the conclusion, I am comfortable with the Taxi in Bangkok. I almost slept every time I took taxi at Bangkok. Perhaps I was too tired while traveling, or it is cozy… haha!
